Most often associated with traditional "talk therapy," individual therapy takes on a new form as appointments are scheduled during times most convenient for you and in places that feel the safest.
Through the secure platform provided by SimplePractice, we can connect and engage in therapy sessions online while ensuring the highest level of privacy, maintaining the confidentiality of your personal information and compliance with industry standards. This virtual format allows you to receive the same level of professional care and support as in-person therapy, while eliminating the need for travel or scheduling constraints.
Picture this: instead of a stuffy office with a lounge chaise that you are expected to yield into while you make free associations and interpret dreams, we begin our work using a virtual platform where you are in control of where, when, and how you are when we meet. Imagine meeting your therapist from the comfort of your own home, the convenience of your work office, or the freedom of taking your therapy sessions outside to that quiet spot you enjoy so much. As long as you have an internet connection, we can have our session.
Individual therapy can help you:
Become an expert of your own mental health and learn how to manage the symptoms of grief, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Gain a better understanding of yourself and your relationships with others.
Empower you to develop insights about your thoughts and emotions, allowing you to be successful in learning to work with them opposed to avoiding them.
Learn to make choices and use healthy coping strategies that align with your values, allow you to manage stress and tolerate distress, and build your life most worth living.
Let's take it one step further from the couch in the stuffy office and take our work to the great outdoors! Being in nature, surrounded by natural sounds, sights, smells, and feels, we can take our work outside when suitable, safe, and if desired.
Walk and Talk therapy is a session held while walking, exploring or sitting in a nearby park, forest or gardens - we will work together to identify a location that feels safe and inspiring for you.
What we will lack in privacy, convenience, and guarantees of safety, we will make up for as we wander together, moving our bodies intentionally with physical health in mind, practicing in real time the mindfulness skills that you will learn in therapy sessions.
At this time, we are only able to offer Walk and Talk to clients paying privately for their services.
Walk and Talk Therapy sessions can only be scheduled after an one hour initial virtual assessment. Sessions may be cancelled or switched to virtual depending on weather, illness, or injury.
Why Would I Consider Walk and Talk?
Several research studies have been conducted to examine the effectiveness of Walk and Talk Therapy, and the results are positive. Not only is there evidence that Walk and Talk can be as effective as traditional talk therapy for the treatment of depression (as published by a study in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology), but also that even simulated nature walks can be effective for boosting mood and self-esteem (as published by this study in the Journal of Environmental Psychology).
Exercise has also been reported to have numerous positive neurobiological effects on mental health, including increasing the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins; all stuff we like to see in therapy. Exercise also can increase the production of brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), which is essential for growth and development in the brain, which is exactly what we are seeking to promote in talk therapy.
Essentially, the addition of exercise to your routine, whether during your therapy session or outside of it, will help you progress through therapy to your goals.
